On January 20, Nairobi hosted the inaugural Japan-Kenya Policy Dialogue. Japan was represented by Mr. Toshihiko Horiuchi, Assistant Minister and Director-General of the African Affairs Department, while Kenya was represented by Dr. A. Korir Sing’oei, Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs.

On May 29, at 9:30 a.m., Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba met with Tanzanian Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa, who was visiting Japan to attend the National Day event at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai. The meeting lasted about 30 minutes.

Minister Iwaya praised the ADC’s efforts to deepen ties with Japan and highlighted Japan’s three decades of support for Africa’s development through TICAD. He emphasized that TICAD 9, to be held in August, will advance cooperation with African nations on Agenda 2063 by promoting innovation, youth and women’s empowerment, economic integration, and peace and stability, leveraging Japan’s expertise in areas such as AI and waste recycling.

From May 1 to 4, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Arfiya Eri visited Uganda and Djibouti to strengthen bilateral relations and promote cooperation ahead of TICAD 9 in Yokohama this August. In Uganda, Ms. Eri met with President Yoweri Museveni, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Henry Oryem Okello. They discussed regional peace, UN reform, and economic cooperation.
H.E. Ms. Maria Benvinda Delfina Levi, Prime Minister of Mozambique, is scheduled to visit Japan from June 14 to 18. During her visit, Prime Minister Levi will attend the National Day event at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, as an official guest of the Japanese government, and will also take part in the Japan-Mozambique Business Forum.

On March 18, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi met with South Africa’s Deputy President Paul Mashatile, who visited Japan at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The meeting, which began at 10:50 a.m. and lasted about 15 minutes, focused on strengthening bilateral ties.

On April 23rd, commencing at 4:30 p.m., for approximately 25 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan held a telephone talk with H.E. Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain.

On April 8, Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya held a 35-minute phone conversation with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty. Minister Abdelatty outlined Egypt’s plan for Gaza reconstruction, to which Minister Iwaya expressed appreciation, noting the significance of the Arab countries’ unified approach and Japan’s willingness to deepen cooperation.
