First Japan-Kenya Policy Dialogue Held in Nairobi
Jan. 20, 2025
On January 20, Nairobi hosted the inaugural Japan-Kenya Policy Dialogue. Japan was represented by Mr. Toshihiko Horiuchi, Assistant Minister and Director-General of the African Affairs Department, while Kenya was represented by Dr. A. Korir Sing’oei, Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs.
This dialogue was initiated following the Japan-Kenya Foreign Ministers’ working dinner held last August, with the purpose of ensuring continuous follow-up on the achievements from President Ruto’s visit to Japan in February of the previous year.
Throughout the discussions, both nations reviewed ways to strengthen bilateral ties, including economic cooperation, and agreed to collaborate on innovative solutions to address African challenges, in preparation for TICAD9 scheduled for this August.
They also shared perspectives on global cooperation, particularly on enhancing the role of the United Nations and reforming the Security Council, as well as on regional and international issues such as developments in Africa (including the Horn of Africa), East Asia, Ukraine, and the Middle East.
