AFURIKA will be the hub to facilitate the communication of the related entities in its field of interest. 

AFURIKA will regularly share the related news in consideration of non-intereference in internal political affairs of the countries and mutual respect for the national identities of all nations.

Minister Iwaya Meets African Diplomats

Minister Iwaya praised the ADC’s efforts to deepen ties with Japan and highlighted Japan’s three decades of support for Africa’s development through TICAD. He emphasized that TICAD 9, to be held in August, will advance cooperation with African nations on Agenda 2063 by promoting innovation, youth and women’s empowerment, economic integration, and peace and stability, leveraging Japan’s expertise in areas such as AI and waste recycling.

Parliamentary Vice-Minister Eri Visits Uganda and Djibouti

From May 1 to 4, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Arfiya Eri visited Uganda and Djibouti to strengthen bilateral relations and promote cooperation ahead of TICAD 9 in Yokohama this August.

In Uganda, Ms. Eri met with President Yoweri Museveni, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Henry Oryem Okello. They discussed regional peace, UN reform, and economic cooperation.

FM Kamikawa Meets AU Dp. Chair Nsanzabaganwa
Japan and Africa Relations

On August 25, Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa met with Dr. Monique Nsanzabaganwa, Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, who was in Japan for the TICAD Ministerial Meeting. Minister Kamikawa thanked the AUC for its cooperation with the TICAD process and highlighted its crucial role in promoting a prosperous, integrated, and peaceful Africa. She called for continued collaboration to develop innovative solutions ahead of TICAD 9, building on more than 30 years of TICAD achievements.

On April 8, Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya held a 35-minute phone conversation with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty. Minister Abdelatty outlined Egypt’s plan for Gaza reconstruction, to which Minister Iwaya expressed appreciation, noting the significance of the Arab countries’ unified approach and Japan’s willingness to deepen cooperation.

DIALOGUE
 

On January 20, 2024, Japan and Kenya held their first Policy Dialogue in Nairobi. Senior officials from both nations discussed ways to deepen bilateral relations and agreed to work together on regional issues and global challenges.

VISIT
 

H.E. Ms. Maria Benvinda Delfina Levi, Prime Minister of Mozambique, is scheduled to visit Japan from June 14 to 18.

During her visit, Prime Minister Levi will attend the National Day event at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, as an official guest of the Japanese government, and will also take part in the Japan-Mozambique Business Forum.

SUMMIT

On May 29, at 9:30 a.m., Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba met with Tanzanian Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa, who was visiting Japan to attend the National Day event at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai. The meeting lasted about 30 minutes.

On March 18, 2024, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi met with South Africa’s Deputy President Paul Mashatile to discuss strengthening bilateral relations, energy cooperation, and investment opportunities.
