Japan-Egypt Foreign Ministers’ Call

April 8, 2025

On April 8, Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya held a 35-minute phone conversation with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty.

Minister Abdelatty outlined Egypt’s plan for Gaza reconstruction, to which Minister Iwaya expressed appreciation, noting the significance of the Arab countries’ unified approach and Japan’s willingness to deepen cooperation.

Minister Iwaya voiced concern over the resumption of Israeli military operations in Gaza, condemning the resulting civilian casualties. He reaffirmed Japan’s call for all parties to return to negotiations and praised Egypt’s diplomatic efforts, pledging continued support.

Both ministers agreed to work closely to restore calm, address the humanitarian crisis, and promote long-term peace and stability in the region.
