Parliamentary Vice-Minister Eri Visits Uganda and Djibouti

From May 1 to 4, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Arfiya Eri visited Uganda and Djibouti to strengthen bilateral relations and promote cooperation ahead of TICAD 9 in Yokohama this August.

In Uganda, Ms. Eri met with President Yoweri Museveni, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Henry Oryem Okello. They discussed regional peace, UN reform, and economic cooperation. Ms. Eri handed over an invitation to TICAD 9 and visited Japan-supported infrastructure projects, including the Kampala Flyover and traffic control facilities, confirming their positive impact. She also met with Japanese nationals to hear their perspectives on development and business challenges.

In Djibouti, Ms. Eri held talks with Prime Minister Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed and Foreign Minister Abdoulkader Houssein Omar, confirming closer collaboration on maritime security and regional issues, including North Korea and UN Security Council reform. She visited the Japanese Self-Defense Force facility to encourage personnel, inspected patrol vessels provided under Japan’s Grant Aid, and affirmed continued cooperation to ensure stability in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. Additionally, she met with Japanese citizens contributing to bilateral relations and regional development.
