March 29, 2025

On Saturday, March 29, Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya held a one-hour meeting with representatives of the African Diplomatic Corps (ADC).

Minister Iwaya praised the ADC’s efforts to deepen ties with Japan and highlighted Japan’s three decades of support for Africa’s development through TICAD. He emphasized that TICAD 9, to be held in August, will advance cooperation with African nations on Agenda 2063 by promoting innovation, youth and women’s empowerment, economic integration, and peace and stability, leveraging Japan’s expertise in areas such as AI and waste recycling.

Dr. Pierre Ndzengue, Ambassador of Cameroon and Dean of the ADC, thanked Japan for its role in Africa’s progress and expressed hopes for stronger relations, increased investment, and expanded human resource development. Other ambassadors echoed the call for closer economic and bilateral cooperation, particularly in innovation and investment.

Minister Iwaya concluded by appreciating the valuable input from the ambassadors and reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to dialogue and collaboration with African countries both bilaterally and through international platforms like TICAD.

Representatives from Cameroon, Morocco, Gabon, Tanzania, Malawi, and Ghana attended the meeting.
